Background

Marienlyst Strandhotel Goes “All In” with NetNordic!

Swedish Ess Group AB, an innovative and leading player in the hotel and restaurant industry, owns and operates the renowned Marienlyst Strandhotel. This hotel is idyllically located right by the beach outside Helsingør in Denmark. It is one of Denmark’s oldest and best beach hotels but also had significant potential for further development. Ess Group worked for an extended period to further develop the hotel, with an overarching goal of making Marienlyst Strandhotel a leading destination hotel in Southern Sweden and along the East Coast of Denmark.

The Challenge

The Challenge for Ess Group

At Marienlyst Strandhotel, romance flourishes in combination with unique experiences in concerts, food and drink, and spa. Guests should always be at the center of the experience universe. This was the starting point for the extensive project that Ess Group chose to initiate at Marienlyst. This included, among other things, the construction of a new guest room wing, the establishment of a new outdoor pool area, an Orangerie, as well as a general upgrade of the hotel.

As a result of this expansion, there arose a need to establish a partnership with an experienced provider for the delivery and operation of technology for guests and staff. The hotel was to remain in regular operation while the extensive renovation and upgrading of the building took place. This placed high demands on the partner’s ability to carry out their work at the hotel efficiently. Additionally, it was important to minimize noise and visible presence at the hotel.

NetNordic was contacted based on our experience from previous similar projects. We were asked if we wanted to be part of this project. For us, this presented an engaging and exciting challenge, and something we wanted to be a part of. Shortly after, Ess Group chose NetNordic as their technology partner for the project, as well as for consulting and radio planning. Additionally, NetNordic was engaged to document the necessary cabling work that needed to be carried out.

Unknown Factors and Predictable Progress

Projects of this type often involve a number of unknown factors and unpredictable progress. This is because challenges may arise that require changes in schedules, adjustments to technology, and similar issues. Therefore, it was important for Ess Group to establish a partnership with a player who had good knowledge of the hotel sector. Ess Group also wanted a partner who could provide good advice and was adaptable. This proved to be crucial in the eventual choice of NetNordic.

It was also of great importance that employees had access to technology and services that allowed them to perform their work as quickly, efficiently, and guest-friendly as possible. Additionally, there was a desire for all services delivered to the hotel to be cloud-based, as the hotel did not want any responsibility for operations, maintenance, or upgrades.

The Solution

Cloud-based services

NetNordic was chosen as the total supplier for Marienlyst Strandhotel. Solutions such as cloud-based services on the same platform were part of the delivery. Through this cloud platform, the hotel received Wi-Fi with full coverage. As part of the IPTV delivery, a customized interface on the TVs for guests was included. A cloud-based IPTV headend that distributes TV channels to all rooms in the hotel was installed. Additionally, SMART TVs with integrated Chromecast were also installed, allowing guests to stream their own content to the TV screens in their rooms. The IPTV solution is also integrated with the PMS system, ensuring that all streaming and casting services are available to guests.

The delivered platform ensures that Marienlyst Strandhotel has a predictable cost structure. This leads to minimal technical installations at the hotel. The hotel did not want any responsibility for the operation, maintenance, or upgrades of the technology. At the same time, Ess Group AB achieves significant synergies as this hotel and several sister hotels under Ess Group now share technical platforms. Consequently, the customer benefits from scalability, lower costs, easier upgrades, and efficient service and support.

The Result

The Delivery

  • Cloud-based delivery of network (LAN) for administration and guests, conference facilities, and IPTV, among other services.

  • Cloud-based delivery of IPTV solution and Smart TVs with integrated Chromecast in all guest rooms.
  • Cloud-based platform for IPTV-based entertainment services and TV channels in all guest rooms.

The Outcome

The development of Marienlyst Strandhotel has been ongoing for two years and is still not completed as of today. Throughout the entire project, the hotel has remained in regular operation and has been able to offer its guests great experiences both physically and digitally. A strategic partner for technology delivery was particularly important. Additionally, criteria such as predictability, trust, flexibility, and delivery quality were emphasized. After a comprehensive evaluation, NetNordic was awarded the contract for the technology delivery to the hotel. Despite complex deliveries and many delays in the project, NetNordic was able to complete its deliveries on time, allowing Ess Group to adhere to its own internal timeline.
